Could you comment on the incident involving a U.S. diplomat when he tried to visit Mr. Nguyen Van Ly in Hue? Is there any investigation on it?
Answer:
We create conditions for foreign diplomatic missions and diplomats to perform their duties in Viet Nam in accordance with international law, including the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. Foreign diplomatic missions and diplomats are inter alia also obliged to comply with the Vienna Convention and respect the laws of receiving state.
Vietnamese competent agencies are looking into the January 5th incident in Hue, which involved the conduct of a diplomatic staff of the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi.
