On the map of the Web Site www.mapquest.com there is an island whose
name is Woody Island (SanSha) located South of Hainan Island at the co-ordinate
16.831818 N, 247.662048
E. This island is Vietnamese, originally after the surrender in 1945 the
Japanese returned it to Vietnam when it was under the French protectorate.
However, the Republic of China under Chiang Kai-Sheck in 1947 has stolen the island
and when Chiang Kai-Sheck escaped from mainland to Formosa (Taiwan,) this island
was taken over by the People Republic of China (PRC). The Vietnamese claimed
the sovereignty over the Woody Island as an island in the Paracel Archipelago
belonging to Vietnam.
To be fair and to return
the island to the original history, we request that Web Site www.mapquest.com please removes all Chinese
scripts on the island as Google™ and Here™ never have these Chinese scripts on
this Island.
